In the world of haute horlogerie, few names command as much respect and admiration as Patek Philippe. Known for their meticulous craftsmanship and timeless designs, Patek Philippe has once again captured the attention of watch enthusiasts with the launch of their new Cubitus collection. This release marks the brand’s first new line in over 25 years, making it a significant milestone in the watchmaking industry.
The Cubitus collection is a harmonious blend of boldness and elegance, featuring a distinctive square case with rounded corners. This design is a departure from Patek Philippe’s traditional round cases, offering a fresh and modern aesthetic while maintaining the brand’s signature sophistication. The case is available in three materials: stainless steel, a combination of stainless steel and rose gold, and platinum.
Each model in the collection boasts a unique dial design, characterized by horizontal embossed patterns that add depth and texture. The dials come in various colors, including an olive-green sunburst for the stainless steel model, a blue sunburst for the two-tone model, and a striking blue dial for the platinum version.
Patek Philippe is renowned for its technical prowess, and the Cubitus collection is no exception. The highlight of the collection is the reference 5822P-001, crafted in platinum. This model features a grande date window, a day of the week display, and a moonphase complication, all designed to change instantaneously. This level of complexity and precision is a testament to Patek Philippe’s commitment to horological excellence.
The other models in the collection, the 5821/1A-001 in stainless steel and the 5821/1AR-001 in stainless steel and rose gold, are equally impressive. They feature a time-and-date function and are powered by Patek Philippe’s reliable automatic movements. The attention to detail extends to the movements’ rotors and mini-rotors, which are adorned with the same horizontal embossed pattern found on the dials.
While the Cubitus collection introduces new design elements, it also pays homage to Patek Philippe’s rich heritage. The square case design is reminiscent of the brand’s iconic Nautilus line, one of the most recognizable and beloved watch designs in history. This subtle nod to the past ensures that the Cubitus collection remains rooted in tradition while embracing modernity.
The collection’s name, “Cubitus,” is derived from the Latin word for “elbow,” symbolizing the watch’s unique shape and its ability to bend the rules of conventional watch design. This playful yet sophisticated approach is a hallmark of Patek Philippe’s design philosophy.
